Alcove

Last weekend I ate at Alcove in Silverlake, which is known as a great bruch and lunch spot, but I remember it for it's desserts.

They have an amazing bakery section with massive cakes.

Black and White Mouse Cake - This was insane! The top half was white chocolate mouse that must have had cream cheese in it, it was so light an fluffy and tasted like cheese cake. Below that was a milk chocolate mouse, followed by a chocolate cake bottom. The outside was a dark ganache with white chocolate flakes.

Delilah Bakery

Last Sunday morning I went to Delilah Bakery in Echo Park on the way to the LA Flea Market. The bakery itself was very cute, it reminded me of a doll house. They had a lot of cakes, cupcakes, muffins and scones

I loved how they used this dresser for the milk and straws and held the sugar in the drawers.

Banana Chocolate Chip Muffin - This was really good, I loved how big the chocolate chips were. Something about it reminded me of Starbucks' reduced fat chocolate chip banana bread, which isn't a bad thing!

If it wasn't 10 am when I went, I would have tried these.. they look so good. I'll just have to go back!

Tate's Bake Shop

While I was in Southampton last weekend I had to stop at Tate's to get fresh cookies to bring back to LA.

This place has looked the same for as long as I can remember, but every time I go in they have new treats!

Freshly Baked Pies, Waffles, Pound Cakes

Cakes and Cupcakes

Brownies, Blondies and of course, Cookies.

I miss fresh Tate's when I'm away from NY, but I can always make them from scratch!

Yankee Cupcake

Last week I was lucky enough to watch the Yankee game in a box that was very well catered. They appropriately had blue velvet cupcakes with white cream cheese frosting in honor of the team. They weren't extremely tasty...but so cute! The chocolate covered strawberry, however, was delicious.

Beau Rivage

We went to Beau Rivage in Malibu for Ilana's 25th birthday; The food was really good, and they had an amazing selection of desserts! We tried four different cakes:

Apple Tarte Tartin - This is not usually my thing, but I loved it!

Chocolate Cake - A good standard chocolate cake, but not the best I've ever had.

Tiramisu - I loved this! My second favorite of the night, it was so fluffy and flavorful.

Chocolate Pecan Pie - My favorite of all! It was so dense and crunchy with that perfect sweet/salty combo.

Beard Papa's Cream Puff

I've seen Beard Papa's locations around NY and LA but never tried it until recently. It was super sweet, but I liked it much more than I thought I would!

I tried the strawberry, luckily with a fork and knife, because the puff was stuffed with strawberry filling. It was so messy! I'm not sure this is the kind of pastry I would pick up often, but I'm very curious about their other flavors like coffee or pumpkin.

Sweet Twist Pretzel Rods

I first tried these when Meg took me to the Sweet Twist candy store in Rhode Island, and have been asking for them ever since. So on her recent trip home she brought me three! Gourmet pretzel rods are not very common, but should be.

This pretzel is simply dipped in caramel and then in chocolate, and is so good! It's kind of like a home-made, pretzel version of a Twix (which would be a good idea). The combo of salty and sweet is amazing, but combo of gooey and crunchy is even better.

Sweet Rose Creamery

The owners of Rustic Canyon and Huckleberry opened this new ice cream parlor, Sweet Rose Creamery, in the Brentwood Country Mart and it is so cute. It's refreshing to have real ice cream, everywhere else is frozen yogurt!

I had never been to The Country Mart before, and it reminded me so much of the Hamptons, I really liked it.

I chose the Brownie Sundae, which was really good. The vanilla ice cream was wonderful, and all the extravagant toppings were all so fresh. I watched the guy making it acutally whip the cream himself, and the cherry was real!

They had so many bizarre flavors, many of which were sold out. I was sad I couldn't try the mint because it sounded amazing, but I tried the salted caramel (incredible), the coffee (very strong), and summer corn (so weird!).

Some of the girls tried this coconut bar, it was delicious. I highly recommend this if you don't want a huge portion.

They had so many pies, pops, bon bons, milkshakes and ice cream sandwiches. I'll have to go back and try some more things!

Magnolia Bakery, LA

It finally opened! I'm not the biggest Magnolia fan ever, but I was excited for this to come to LA. I like Magnolia, it's very charming, I just think Sprinkles cupcakes are much better. Magnolia, however, does have something no one else has: the best banana pudding ever!! I picked out a few things to try, which were all good, but the pudding outshines the rest.

The inside of the bakery resembled the NY locations, especially with the long lines, but was larger and more industrial. It's very cute, but no where to sit!

Banana Chocolate cupcake, the special of the day.

Chocolate Brownie

Banana Pudding, a whipped banana cream with chunks of banana and cake.

"The Fat Kid Bite"

Charlie Brown

My friend and her Mom stopped by the Charlie Brown Farms in Littlerock, CA on their way to pick up their new puppy. They so generosity shared their candy finds with me, which included almond brittle, caramels, honeycomb, and marshmallow chocolates.

This almond brittle was my favorite! It was perfectly crispy and sweet.

These caramels, honeycomb and marshmallow chocolates were also great. There's such a distinct taste to home made candy.

This trio of caramel, marshmallow and chocoalte was very cute. Super sticky!

Todd English Candy Bars

I wanted to buy something to bring back to LA with me from the Food Hall, and these bars seemed perfect. The two kinds they had sitting out couldn't have been more up my alley.

The Salty Sweet bar was milk chocolate filled with peanuts, toffee and mini pretzel rods...

The PB & J bar was made of a crispy peanut butter creamy filling that was topped with a thin layer of jelly, covered in dark chocolate... this was my favorite of the two.

They were both so good, I may need someone to start mailing them to me regularly... hint hint...

Todd English Red Velvet Cake

While roaming around the Todd English Food Hall, someone at the bakery told the red velvet cake was their best, so I had to try it. It was defiantly one of the best red velvets I've had. I really loved the icing. It was so fresh and tasty!
